We shall first prove that the square of any real number A is positive, hence the equation $A^2+1=0$ cannot have real solutions. So why bother solving it anyway? Is it worth complicate our lives with some strange construction which takes us out of the real line? Are these complex numbers useful? The short answer to all these questions is yes. More details will be given during the talk.
